its Halloween

I was about to start 3rd grade

we Lived in many hotels in between relocations / stations on different bases

we celebrated Halloween in the Navy Lodge on Yokosuka Naval Base this year n did not have any of our things yet

my Mom made these “costumes” out of a bedsheet (a ghost n a rockstar LOL) n some of her makeup

so-called holidays are always sort of challenging for me

most “normal” things are because nothing in my Life has Been remotely relatable or stable

for better or for worse

we never really were included in local family or neighborhood gatherings because we didnt Know anyone n my parents are very introverted too

but now that I am a parent I can relate to the feeling of pulling something / anything together for your child/ren to hopefully look back on fondly someday

my parents were parenting in a different Time under much differently supported circumstances but they still were in these trenches of world building legacy shaping n Loving n I do look back in gratitude

I like to think they were trying their best
